Martin Wilkie is a consultant nephrologist at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, UK. His research interests include novel peritoneal dialysis solutions and risk factors for encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis. He is currently collaborating on a project between the Universities of Leeds and Sheffield to develop a web and paper based decision aid for patients facing dialysis. In 2008 he chaired a working party on Peritoneal Dialysis Access for the Renal Association UK and more recently lead an international group to prepare clinical guidelines for peritoneal dialysis access. He is an associate editor for Peritoneal Dialysis International with responsibility for the Clinical Cases Series. He is also chair of the dialysis study group at the UK Renal Registry. A keen interest is to understand the most effective ways to translate clinical guidelines into practice.

Mandate

• To foster the development of ISPD-endorsed, evidence-based clinical guidelines for peritoneal dialysis with the intention of improving the practice of the modality
• Where sufficiently rigorous data are not available for guidelines, to provide guidance on best demonstrated practice based on expert opinion and the best available information to provide standards of care.
