Shortage of Peritoneal Dialysate in the USA

Utilization of peritoneal dialysis in the United States has grown by approximately 25% over the past two years. However, supply of dialysate has not kept up with demand and the US is now experiencing a shortage of peritoneal dialysate. The two major manufacturers of dialysate are working cooperatively to address this problem and it is hoped that this will be resolved in 3-6 months. Please be aware that this is a temporary issue affecting one region only. The Society is monitoring this situation carefully and has been in communication with the US Food and Drug Administration regarding the possibility of importing solution from other regions to the US. We will keep the membership apprised of future developments as they arise.
