Teaching Nurses to Teach

Focused time is important for the nurse and the patient because patients have unique backgrounds and experiences they bring to training. Focused time allows the nurse to be organized and prepared for each patient.
In this video, one of the goals for this specific patient is independence. Other patients may want a training care partner such as a spouse involved in learning the peritoneal dialysis process. In that case, the nurse would have to divide her attention between the caregiver and the patient to ensure that the learning objectives are achieved.
