2012 September - ISPD 2012 Meeting in Kuala Lumpur

ISPD 2012 - 14th Congress of the International Society of Peritoneal Dialysis
September, 2012

September 9th - 12th, 2012 | Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Welcome message from the Co-Chairs
Dear Colleagues,

ISPD 2012 will be held in Kuala Lumpur in September 2012. It is a great honour to host this meeting and my co-chair and I welcome you to Malaysia. The incidence of end stage renal failure is on the rise in the Asian continent and the Asian Nephrology community is dealing with burgeoning numbers of ESRD patients requiring dialysis. Diabetes mellitus accounts for almost half of all dialysis patients in most centres. The associated comorbidity of these patients makes it a struggle to provide comprehensive dialysis treatment. In parts of Asia with a rapidly aging population this further hampers efforts to provide equitable treatment for all. Peritoneal dialysis provides a reasonable alternative in the management of end stage renal failure especially in patients with coexistent cardiovascular disease and challenging vascular access. Our Scientific Programme will focus on these problems as well as review current issues in the management of peritoneal dialysis patients.

Since early days Malaysia is strategically placed at the crossroads of Asia straddling important trade routes between ancient China and the Indian subcontinent. These ancient cultures blended in well with the local population to form a rich yet distinct cultural potpourri that you should experience. We invite you to see the unique cultures of the varied ethnic groups in both Peninsula Malaysia and the island of Borneo. You must visit our inviting beaches and eco-marine parks and be amazed by the rich biodiversity of our forests and wildlife. See the world’s oldest rainforest in Pahang and spectacular limestone formations in Sarawak. Dive in breathtaking world renown dive-spots of Redang and Sipadan islands that attracts thousands of dive enthusiasts annually. Do not miss this opportunity to visit Malaysia and its attractions.

See you between September 9th to 12th.
