Mandate
The remit of the committee is to
arrive at a slate of nominations to replace those officers and councillors
retiring, in keeping with the bylaws of the society.
Constitution and Bylaws (as of June
2001):
"Officers and Councillors shall be
elected by the General Assembly and shall assume office at the termination
of the Assembly. On behalf of the Council a Nominating Committee
shall submit a list of candidates to the membership in writing, at least
180 days before the General Assembly. Any member may then within
60 days submit to the Secretary/Treasurer or alternative nominees with
a written resumé of qualifications and verification of willingness
to serve. At least 60 days before the General Assembly, a final written
list of the nominees will be sent to the Membership".
The Bylaws, therefore, do not set
out a process whereby the membership is consulted if there are more nominations
than positions for any vacant posts. The process is therefore outlined
as below:
Process:
- According to the Bylaws, the Nominating Committee will produce a slate of nominations at least six
months before the AGM and notify the membership through the usual channels
asking for further nominations for the vacant post.
- In the event that there are more nominations than positions, the Membership will be consulted with these names and an electoral process will ensue.
- The Nominating Committee shall notify the nominees that an election is required and the nominees will then be invited to submit a small biographical sketch and a statement that will then be forwarded to all ISPD members together with the ballot. The ballot would then be returned to the Chair of the Nominating Committee with the deadline being at least two weeks prior to the Annual General Meeting.
- The results of the ballot would be then sent to Council who would present them to the AGM for ratification.
Membership
This committee will be chaired by the immediate past President and have at least three other representatives with a wide geographical distribution (Americas, Europe/Middle East, Africa/Asia) and nursing representation making it a committee of four members.
